SUMMARY:Avoiding Consumer Frauds for Native American Consumers & Communities
DESCRIPTION:Consumer fraud is ever-present. Worse\, scammers use disasters such as the pandemic to devise new frauds and the safer-at-home mandates have put consumers more at risk by making them easier to reach. In addition\, these con artists target discrete populations such as seniors and minorities with schemes designed specifically to take advantage of their vulnerabilities. \nThrough this event subject matter experts from the Federal Trade Commission\, HUD and the FDIC will describe how to identify and avoid mortgage forbearance fraud\, consumer frauds targeting Native Americans and identity theft. FTC data indicates that frauds against Native Americans are under-reported making them an ongoing\, attractive target. FTC representatives will walk attendees through how to report frauds to the FTC.
